Layla Iskandar was born on August 23, 1984 in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Her father is Major General Louis Youssef Iskandar, and her mother is the lawyer, Sheikha Samia Sheikh Joseph El-Khoury. She completed her postgraduate studies in marketing and advertising at the Lebanese University, and obtained a degree in acting and theater directing. She is a Lebanese singer and actress who made her first artistic steps at the age of sixteen, when she won the gold medal for the Lebanese Tarab song category for the “Arabic Tarab” category in the “Studio El Fan” program. In 2004 she participated in the Star Academy program in its first session in the Middle East. The following year, she played the lead role as an actress and singer in the play “Insan”, and the Kuwaiti artist Nabil Shuail participated in the duet “Lebanon”. Layla Iskandar was chosen by the United Nations to support an HIV awareness campaign. In 2007, she released the Gulf video song “Al-Salafa and What Is in It,” which enabled her to win the title of “Best Khaleeji Singer” in that year, in a poll on Dubai TV. A year later, she released a music video titled “Qader Ala Ba’di” in the Egyptian dialect. In 2010, a Lebanese youth song alongside the Lebanese rap group “Militia” was released, entitled “I Love You” and another single entitled “Love from One Side”. Recently, Layla released her new song “Al-Ghabi”, composed by Fayez Al-Saeed and written by Sultan Al-Majali. It is worth mentioning that Layla’s three music videos are directed by Layal Rajha.
