Rooney Mara was born on April 17, 1985 in Bedford, New York, in the United States. She is the younger sister of Kate Mara. She studied at New York University and George Washington University. She moved to Los Angeles in early 2007, and lived with her sister temporarily, although they do not live with each other anymore, Mara believes that the experience brought them closer together, and they are still discussing cinematic works and movie scripts. Mara describes American football as “…the glue that holds our family together.”
She started acting in 2005, and got her fame in the movie (A Nightmare on Elm Street), the remake of the 1984 horror movie, and the movie (The Social Network). She played Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the first of three Sony Pictures films based on the Millennium series novels by Stieg Larson.
Rooney Mara is also known for her philanthropic work, and she supervises the Faces of Kibera Association, which helps orphans in the Kibera district of Nairobi, Kenya, one of the largest slums in Africa.
She says that Gena Rowlands is one of her most inspiring actors, especially in A Woman Under the Influence (1974) and Opening Night (1977).
