Shaggy was born on 22 October 1968 in Kingston, Jamaica. His real name is Orville Richard Parl. When he was 18, he moved with his family to Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York. He was a soldier in the American Marines and participated in the 1990 Kuwait Liberation War with then-U.S. forces in Operation Desert Storm. He began his music career in 1995 with the song Boombastic, which was a great success, but his biggest success was his 2000 album HotShot, especially his songs It Wasn’t Me and Angel.
