Biography, Life story

Majida El Roumi was born on 13 December 1956 in Kafr Shima, southern Lebanon. She is from the Rumi family, which is rooted in the ElBaradei family from the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon. Born in an art house, her father is the Lebanese musician Halim Rumi who was behind the prominence of singer Feroz, and her mother is Egyptian Marie Lutfi. She received a baccalaureate degree in Arabic literature from the Lebanese University.

Her first lyric recording was a monologue kept by Roman Catholics. After her father’s approval, Majida El Roumi turned to the Lebanon Television (Art Studio) programme, with the help of her cousin in 1974, where she stunned the jury with her outstanding performance of the song by singer Leila Murad (I am my heart), giving her first place and all the more.

In 1975, the war erupted in Lebanon with the first massacre in Ayn al-Ramanah. Since Kafr Shima was located near Ayn al-Ramanah, her people fled from her. That year, Majda recorded her first song (uncle with your dream, dream, Lebanon).

Majida El Roumi is one of the most famous Arab artists and star in the world of Arab music and singing. She sang to many poets and composers, including her father, many kings and presidents, and most of the major festivals in the Arab world. She was named several titles, including “The Angel of the Arabian Troubles, The Singer of Intellectuals”, to demonstrate the distinction of her voice and the fluency of her art.

Majida El Roumi celebrated a ceremony at the Baabda Presidential Palace in Beirut held by the late Lebanese President Elias Hirawi in honour of former U.S. President George W. Bush during his visit to Beirut. Some criticized her, but stated that she sang because Bush was a guest of Lebanon. I am against it and I totally reject it. Lebanon has done a great deal of injustice to this policy, and my singing work has its specificity. “

Majda El Roumi married and answered two daughters, Hala, Noor Dafoni.
