Hesham Selim was born on January 27, 1958 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. He studied at the Institute of Tourism and Hotels in 1981, then studied art at the Royal Academy in London through liberal studies and studied the French language. He starred in many films, series and plays. His first appearance was through his performance as Ibn Faten Hamama in the film Empire of Meem directed by Hussein Kamal. He is the son of Egyptian football maestro Saleh Selim and brother of Khaled Selim, husband of the artist Yousra. He married Mrs. Mervat Mustafa al-Nahhas, and she gave birth to him.
