Faisal al-Qasim - Faisal al-Qassem

Faisal al-Qassem was born on June 3, 1961 in the village of Al-Thala in the Syrian governorate of As-Suwayda. He is from the Druze community in Syria, and he is the full brother of the artist Majd Al-Qassem. He graduated in 1983 from the University of Damascus with a BA in English Literature, then obtained a PhD in English Literature from the University of Hull, UK, in 1990.

He trained and worked as a presenter and preparer of Arabic programs at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) between 1988 and 1989, and worked as a presenter on MBC TV in 1991, and as a presenter of news programs on (BBC Arabic) between 1994 and 1996, then he moved to ( Al-Jazeera) and gained his fame through his weekly program (The Opposite Direction). He writes weekly articles in the Qatari Al Sharq newspaper, and also wrote for the Emirati newspaper, Gulf News.

He also has a number of books, namely: Politics and Literature, Save and Shut Up, The Lost Dialogue in Arab Culture, Nothing.
In 2016, Faisal Al-Qasim underwent a hair transplant as he was suffering from baldness.

Ranked 64 among the “100 Most Powerful Arab Personalities 2007,” Arabian Business.
He received the Medal of Distinction for the most influential personalities in the Arab world in the field of media from Waldenburg International College, through the scientific committee at the level of the Arab world, and through the chairman of the committee, the regional director of the college in the Middle East, Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Al-Jamsi. Dr. Faisal Al-Qasim was chosen to award him this Medal in May 2012.
